Since 2004 we have run our production with a OCE Lightjet 500 XL, the only machine of its kind in Austria. Only with this type of digital exposure unit is it possible to reach extra-large formats of up to 180 x 300cm in the highest photographic quality. The OCE Lightjet 500 XL also produces the especially exclusive photographic art by the German artists Thomas Ruff, Andreas Gurski, Thomas Struth and Elgar Esser. Their works are counted as some of the most expensive and most sought-after photographic art on the market.
The professional use of one of the world's best photographic exposure units is only one of the reasons the department for digital photographic printing at Foto Leutner is well-known as being one of Austria's top addresses for this kind of work.
Foto Leutner produces high-quality color- and BW prints (Fiberbased included) as well as Duratrans for lightboxes directly from digital files.
General Information about the photographic printing process:
Digital Lightjet prints are not inkjet prints but true photographic prints that are created through a digital exposure unit and a 3-dot Laserlight (red, green and blue, RGB), which exposes the digital file directly onto photographic paper similar to that used in analog photographic printing.
Digital and analog photographic prints can therefore be mounted next to each other without any apparent difference.
The paper surfaces range from satin mat to glossy (KODAK Endura).
Compared to other digital printing techniques, the archival value of the exposed print onto photographic paper is excellent, as is the visually even and smooth surface appearance, which does not show the dots common on an inkjet print.
The photographic companies KODAK and FUJI both give a 100 year guarantee for the archival value of their products.
Resolution: 300dpi at final output size (max. 180 x 300cm)
Recommended file formats:
TIFF (alternatively also: Photoshop, EPS, JPG or PDF, X-press, InDesign, Illustrator)
For best results, the digital file should be saved with an embedded RGB profile at a resolution of at least 200dpi in the desired output size. As for color profiles, we recommend ECI, sRGB, ColorMatch or ADOBE 98.
